New leisure centre at Sovereign Way Mid

We are proposing to build a new leisure centre on the Sovereign Way Mid Car Park site. This facility will replace the current Angel Centre, which is reaching the end of its operational life.

The 118-space car park is currently home to the monthly Tonbridge Farmers Market, with discussions ongoing to provide an alternative venue for traders.

The new leisure centre will be designed to be accessible, inclusive and resilient to flooding. It will provide a welcoming frontage, helping to create a more attractive and connected town centre. The building will be located at the heart of a network of improved pedestrian and cycle routes, making it easy to reach on foot or by bike.

Although no firm decisions have been made, the proposed facility will explore new and improved services including flexible studio spaces, childrens' soft play, larger gym and a spin studio as well as improve changing facilities.

This site has been chosen for its central location and its ability to act as a catalyst for wider regeneration in the area. We are committed to delivering the new facility as the first phase of the masterplan, ensuring continuity of service for residents.

We are running a separate survey all about the new leisure centre facility mix (the different types of facilities and services offered). Your feedback will help shape this popular community space. Keep an eye out for more details coming August 2025.

The current Angel Centre will be unaffected and will remain open until the new facility is fully operational.

Additional information can be found in the masterplan document.
