Looking for housing? There are several ways you can find a place to live. We offer guidance on options available both inside and outside the borough to meet a range of needs, these include:
- Private renting
- Joining our housing register
- Housing associations
- Transfer incentive scheme
- Supported living
Private renting
You might consider private renting. This option is available within the borough or nearby areas, offering a range of choices in terms of location, budget, and property types. To get started:
- Check local letting agencies.
- Search for listings on estate agent websites.
- Talk to private landlords.
Joining the housing register
You can apply to join our housing register, which provides social housing based on eligibility and need. However, space is very limited, and waiting times are long, so we recommend exploring all other options first.

Housing associations
Housing associations offer renting options and operate independently from the council. They often have different eligibility requirements, so be sure to check with each association to see what’s available.

Mutual exchange schemes/transfer incentive
Our Transfer incentive scheme offers a financial incentive for Registered Provider tenants living in affordable housing who choose to move to a smaller affordable home (downsize) or into private sector housing.
If you’re already in social housing or housing association accommodation, you might be eligible to exchange homes with another tenant. This can be a good option if you’re looking to move to a new area or a different type of home.

Supported living
For individuals who need extra support, there are supported living options available across the borough through private scheme. These housing arrangements provide additional help, such as assisted living services, to help you live independently and safely.
