Public health funerals

Where someone has died in our borough and there is no next of kin or suitable person to make the necessary funeral arrangements, we may arrange a public health funeral.

Our preferred funeral directors will provide everything necessary for a simple service, including a coffin, transport of the deceased to the crematorium in a hearse and bearers to transfer the coffin to the chapel. Alternatively, a burial can be arranged at a local cemetery if the deceased has expressed this as their chosen option in writing.

Following a cremation, remains will normally be scattered in an unmarked but recorded location in the Gardens of Remembrance at the crematorium.

We will recover the costs in arranging the funeral from the deceased person’s estate.

If you would like further information regarding a public health funeral please contact us on 01732 876067 or email us at privatesectorhousing@tmbc.gov.uk.
