Pest control

Last Updated:

The council uses a contractor, Monitor Pest Control Ltd, to provide a free service for the treatment of rats, mice, bedbugs and cockroaches in people's homes. This service is only free for those who receive Council tax reduction benefits.

We also have an arrangement for our contractor, Monitor Pest Control Ltd, to treat a wide range of pests in people's homes at a competitive rate.

Pest types

Please select the relevant pest below to find more information about the pest, the cost of treatment where applicable and to book a service.

Pests where no service is provided

Bees

There are many types of bees and wasps. You can use this quick sheet or a more detailed leaflet to identify what type of bee or wasp you have witnessed. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust have a short leaflet on what to do if you find a bumblebee nest.

We can only offer a chargeable pest control service for swarms of bees (bumblebees or honeybees) if the swarm remains in place for several days and has the potential to cause harm. If the swarm is recent you may wish to contact a local beekeeper via the British Beekeepers Association website who may be able to assist you.

Foxes

We do not provide a service for managing foxes. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has produced an advisory guide on urban foxes. More information can be found on The Fox Website or The Fox Projectwhich offer a deterrence service.
