Report a planning breach

Our planning enforcement team investigates reports of planning contraventions and breaches of related legislation.

Our planning enforcement plan and direct action protocol shows what we will do about breaches of planning control.

It explains:

  • our enforcement powers
  • how we decide whether to take enforcement action
  • the process of a planning enforcement investigation

You must seek pre-application advice before buying a plot of land for sale at auction. Often these plots are in areas constrained by planning policy. If this is the case, you will not be able to use the plot for most types of development. If you buy a plot of land and start any unauthorised development we may take formal action.

Section 215 protocol

We have adopted a section 215 protocol which shows how we will deal with complaints surrounding untidy sites. Read in conjunction with the main planning enforcement plan and associated direct action protocol. we will use the protocol as a basis for all investigations into whether to take formal action on such matters.
