After you submit your application

There are currently delays in determining planning applications. See Planning updates for details.

Once our planning team receives your application we will check that everything has been completed correctly and is in line with national requirements. Your plans will then be assessed.

Applications are publicised during the approval process. This can include:

  • listing the details on our website for the public to view and comment on
  • notifying your neighbours of your plans
  • displaying a notice about your plans on the site

In most cases, planning applications are decided within eight weeks. In England, for unusually large or complex applications the time limit is 13 weeks.

If your application is rejected or the decision takes longer, you can appeal. If your plans are rejected, you should always check the reasons why as you may be able to amend them and resubmit your application.
