Due to our location near the Medway and Bourne rivers, flooding is one of the major risks to many of our homes and businesses.
Other emergencies such as fires and power cuts can affect us all too. There are simple and effective steps you can take to be more prepared. The Government has created a website designed to help you prepare for emergencies, be more informed about hazards, and get involved in activities to support yourself and your community before, during and after an emergency.
Things you can do to prepare for flooding include:
- check the risk of flooding in your area
- sign up for flood alerts from the Environment Agency
- create a personal, group or business flood plan
- take direct steps to protect your property for flooding
The National Flood Forum’s Blue Pages offer information on products and services that may help protect your property from flooding, including relevant insurance.
To help us prepare for flooding you can also volunteer to be a flood warden.
