Borough emissions

Since the industrial revolution we have used, burned, and refined natural elements for energy, transport, and products. This has released significant amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. As a result we have seen increasing the earths temperatures at a fast rate. Atmospheric CO2 emissions have risen by 40 per cent in the 20th and 21st century. This has resulted in the 1°C of warming to date.

Each year the department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) share data on local authority CO2 levels. We will analyse and report on the emissions associated within our borough. This work will start in 2022 and will use the 2020 data release.

Note: as BEIS data has a two-year lag, data for 2022 will not be released until 2024.
