A recycling service is in operation for all flats and houses with communal collections across the borough.
Communal bin stores
There are separate bins for the following materials in your store/bin area
Mixed Recycling
- glass bottles and jars
- plastic bottles, pots, tubs, and trays
- tins and cans - including biscuit tins
- clean kitchen foil and foil food trays
- aerosols (must be empty)
Please rinse off any food from containers and place them in the recycling bin loose (not in plastic bags).
Paper and cardboard
- Leaflets/magazines
- Newspaper/envelopes
- Carboard boxes/packaging
- Greetings cards/wrapping paper (no glitter or shiny paper)
Please flatten down any cardboard boxes and remove as much plastic tape as possible, along with any non-recyclable packaging such as polystyrene, plastic bags and film. These items can be placed in your normal (non-recycling) rubbish bins.
Food Waste
We are in the process of rolling out weekly food waste collections to flats/properties with shared bins. Each flat will receive a small kitchen caddy, and we provide a communal food bin in your bin store/area.
We collect all cooked and uncooked food waste (except liquids) as follows:
- Meat, fish, bones
- Bread, cakes, pasties
- Tea bags, coffee grounds
- Cheese, eggshells, solid fats
- Fruit, vegetables
- leftovers

Rubbish bins for non-recyclable waste including:
- Nappies/wipes
- Plastic bags/sacks
- Tissues, soiled paper
- Cartons (Tetra Pak)
- Soft plastics such as crisp/biscuit wrappers*
- Plant pots, broken toys, crockery, drinking glasses
- Vacuum bag contents

To dispose of bulkier items, you can:
It is important not to leave large or bulky items in the bin store, as this can prevent the bins from being emptied.
