The election of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Kent will take place on Thursday 2 May. The elected candidate will serve as the PCC for a four-year term of office. 

Tonbridge and Malling is represented by the PCC for Kent. They make sure community needs are met as effectively as possible, and work to improve local relationships through building confidence and trust. The PCC is there to ensure the police service is answerable to the communities they serve. They work in partnership across a range of agencies at local and national level in a joint approach to preventing and reducing crime.

The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO)

The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) is responsible for nominations, overseeing the election process and collating the results from across the Kent police area. The PARO is based at Gravesham Borough Council.

  • Friday 22 March – notice of election published
  • Tuesday 26 March – poll cards dispatched
  • Friday 05 April 4pm – candidate nomination deadline
  • Monday 08 April – Statement of Persons nominated notice published
  • Tuesday 16 April midnight – registration to vote application deadline
  • Wednesday 17 April 5pm – postal vote application deadline
  • Wednesday 24 April 5pm – proxy vote /Voter Authority Certificate application deadline
  • Thursday 02 May – polling day
  • Sunday 05 May – verification and count

Voting by post or proxy

If you can’t go to the polling station on  polling day, you can still vote in an election by using a postal vote or a proxy vote. A postal vote lets you send your vote by mail, and a proxy vote lets you choose someone else to vote for you. You might need to use one of these options if you are away from home, busy at work, or have health or mobility issues.
