Speech bubbles with questions about housing, the environment, green spaces and support for high streets.

Public invited to give their views on future priorities

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council today opened a consultation on its priorities for the next two years.

The new corporate strategy has four key areas of focus: delivering efficient services, caring for the environment, improving housing and investing in the local economy.

The drive for efficient services will see emphasis placed on digital technologies and the delivery of good quality leisure facilities while environmental priorities will see investment in reducing carbon emissions and building on the borough’s record recycling rates.

Tonbridge and Malling’s new Local Plan will be the key mechanism for meeting housing goals, including delivery of affordable homes and better standards in the private rented sector. Investment in the local economy will see priority given to plans to make best use of council owned assets in Tonbridge, including Tonbridge Castle.

Council Leader, Matt Boughton, said: ‘We want a strategy underpinned by innovation, transformation and delivery. This will help ensure we can encourage investment in the borough, deliver better housing for local people and make real progress towards a sustainable solution to climate change.

‘Our corporate strategy sets out our route to achieving these goals, and I hope residents and businesses will respond enthusiastically to this consultation, sharing their thoughts with us and helping us to develop a strategy that reflects what residents want from the council.’

A public meeting will be held online on Tuesday 17 January at 6.30pm so residents and businesses can hear more about the plans and put questions to council leaders. Visit the consultation page for more details.
