Tonbridge Castle

After essential restoration work, Tonbridge Castle will reopen to the public on Saturday, 2 August 2025, welcoming families just in time for the school summer holidays.

For the last six months the Grade 1 listed castle, one of Kent’s most iconic landmarks, has been undergoing vital repairs, including the replacement of the 20-year-old zinc roof covering, restoration of timbers and stonework, and upgraded lighting in the Great Hall. Together, these vital improvements will ensure the medieval landmark continues to be at the heart of the town for future generations. The castle is owned and operated by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council which funded the repairs costing £420,000.

Cllr Adem Mehmet, cabinet member for infrastructure said: “We are thrilled to welcome visitors back to this historic site and we’ve got a full programme of events planned for the summer.

“We know how much it means to our town to have this ancient landmark at its centre, and now the restored roof and upgraded lighting bring a fresh vibrancy to the Great Hall. We can’t wait to show it off.”
