Get ready for a fun-filled summer of events
Make the most of the outdoor spaces in Tonbridge with live music, outdoor theatre, river cruises, inflatable fun and delicious food and drink, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up:
The months of May to September will see the council owned Tonbridge Castle and surrounding sportsgrounds host a packed schedule of entertainment including free Sunday afternoon concerts and open-air theatre on the castle lawn, Artisan Markets, Tonbridge Music Weekend and the return of Tonbridge Pride. The ever-popular Tonbridge Food and Drink Festival takes place over both bank holiday weekends in May and August.
Coming to Tonbridge for the first time this August bank holiday weekend is the UK’s biggest touring inflatable obstacle course Action Arena. Tailored for children under 1.2m in height, the 160ft long course will make its way around the Racecourse Sportsground and promises an exhilarating and memorable adventure.
Beyond the castle and sportsgrounds, the historic town of Tonbridge offers a wide range of additional attractions. The River Medway is a prime spot to enjoy Tonbridge from, with River Walk Music inviting people to gather along the river banks to enjoy free live music on Friday evenings from the end of July and throughout August. There are also river trips, boat and paddleboard hire and the annual Dragon Boat Race taking place on 1 September. Another great way to enjoy Tonbridge is along the scenic cycle routes which take you around the town and through the award-winning Haysden Country Park. And let’s not forget the excellent choice of local businesses, with pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops to enjoy.
Cllr Des Keers, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s cabinet member for community services, says: ‘Tonbridge is fast becoming one of the top places in Kent for people to enjoy the best in summer entertainment. Our castle is a brilliant venue, right in the heart of the town and offers the perfect setting for events or to simply enjoy a picnic in picturesque surroundings.
‘We’re looking forward to hosting new event Action Arena this year as well as welcoming back popular favourites like Pride and the Food and Drink Festivals. Join us this summer as we celebrate the community, culture and spirit that Tonbridge has to offer.’
