Deputy steps up to top council role

Adrian Stanfield has been appointed interim chief executive of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.

Mr Stanfield’s new role was approved by a full council meeting last night and he takes up the position from today (13 December). Since 2013, he served as director of central services, becoming deputy chief executive in 2019.

Prior to joining Tonbridge and Malling as chief solicitor in 2011, Mr Stanfield worked in the legal teams of a number of local authorities, including Sevenoaks, Guildford and Weymouth and Portland. He started his legal career in private practice in London.

Mr Stanfield’s interim appointment runs to May 2024 during which time the council will undertake the recruitment process for a permanent chief executive, following the retirement of Julie Beilby who led the council for more than 10 years.

Mr Stanfield said: ‘Tonbridge and Malling is a great borough and I’m delighted to be taking up the role of interim chief executive. I look forward to working alongside our elected members, staff and partners to push forward with our priorities and continue delivering improvements for residents and businesses.’
