A path through the woods

Residents are invited to respond to a consultation about the management of woodland at Taddington Valley

A consultation has opened to discover the views of residents on a proposed woodland management plan for Taddington Valley, to the north-east of Tonbridge and Malling borough, immediately east of the A2045 and west of Walderslade.

In recent years Taddington Valley has been affected by high volumes of human activity, with some of the trees now in decline and ground flora limited.  By creating a formal plan, the council can identify issues and investigate ways to address climate change, protect and enhance biodiversity and improve accessibility.

A plan will also support bids for external funding to support the management of the site.  Once agreement with key stakeholders and members of the public has been reached, the plan will then be approved by the Forestry Commission and formally adopted.

The management plan aims to increase biodiversity through coppicing the woodland in rotation, and by pollarding trees along the central trackway to previous growth points and allowing them to regrow.

Cllr Des Keers, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: ‘Taddington Valley is a valued asset for our community and I am committed to improving the site for local residents and to improve its environmental value.

‘I fully support the enhancement of this site and would encourage all to engage with the consultation so your views can be taken into consideration.’
