Working with community groups to deliver Household Support Funding.
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved plans to help residents who are struggling to meet rising energy bills and general costs of living.
The Government’s Household Support Fund forms part of the national cost of living support package that has been running since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. In Kent, further funding has been allocated under the scheme and Kent County Council has awarded Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council £278,562.
At a meeting on Tuesday 4 July, councillors agreed to distribute this funding to charities and community groups in the borough, to help provide the following support to residents:
- Fuel vouchers
- Community foodbanks
- Pastoral care for children through schools
- Debt advice
- Mental health services
- Community projects that directly help residents
Cabinet Member for Finance and Housing, Cllr Kim Tanner said ‘This funding is hugely welcome and it’s important that we get help efficiently and effectively to those who need it in these financially-testing times. The best way to do this is to work with community groups who specialise in supporting our residents and we look forward to announcing further details in due course.’
