Fireworks going off over Tonbridge Castle

New music festival joins bumper crop of events

Tonbridge will be welcoming rock legends Jethro Tull to a new festival launching this summer as the town gears up for its biggest ever season of music, food and family events.

The headliners for the four-day Walled Garden music festival in the grounds of Tonbridge Castle will be joined by The Levellers, 80s star Nic Kershaw, Heaven 17, Britpop era band Feeder, and more than a dozen other acts over two weekends from 9 to 17 September.

The summer months will also see the council owned castle and surrounding grounds host a packed schedule of entertainment including free Sunday afternoon concerts, open air theatre and cinema, food and drink festivals and the return of Tonbridge Pride on 5 August. The ever-popular Tonbridge Food and Drink Festival takes place over the first weekend in September, combined with the annual dragon boat races on the river.

Beyond the castle grounds, the historic town of Tonbridge offers a wide range of additional attractions. These include river trips along the Medway, two theatres, scenic cycle routes and the award-winning Haysden Country Park.

Cllr Des Keers, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s cabinet member for community, said:  ‘Tonbridge is fast becoming one of the top places in Kent for people to enjoy the best in summer entertainment. Our castle is a brilliant venue, right in the heart of the town and offers the perfect setting for events or simply enjoying a picnic in picturesque surroundings.

‘I am thrilled to be welcoming the Walled Garden festival and music legends such as Jethro Tull to our town, which can only help establish our growing reputation as one of Kent’s leading locations for outdoor entertainment.’
