Empty homes are wasted resource, especially when there’s a high demand for housing. These homes can fall into disrepair, attract anti-social behaviour, and impact the look and feel of a neighbourhood.

We are committed to bringing empty properties back into use to help meet local housing needs and support thriving communities.

Report an empty home

If you are aware of a property that has been empty for a long time, please tell us. We will investigate and may contact the owner to offer support or take further steps if needed.

What we are doing?

We actively identify empty properties and work closely with owners to explore practical solutions for returning them to occupation.

In collaboration with Kent County Council, we support their No Use Empty (NUE) scheme, offering interest-free loans to landlords to help refurbish and reuse vacant homes. In addition, we provide guidance and, in some cases, financial assistance to fund essential improvements needed to bring long-term empty properties back into use.

Where empty homes pose a serious nuisance, create hazards, or contribute to anti-social behaviour, we have statutory powers to act. These include serving legal notices, carrying out works in default, and, when necessary, using compulsory purchase or enforced sale procedures. Our aim is to protect public amenity and ensure properties are brought back into productive use for the benefit of the community.

If you own an empty property, we can help you explore your options. Whether you are looking to sell, rent, or renovate, our team can offer guidance and point you towards useful resources.
