Social housing is in short supply across the UK. We work with housing associations to help provide affordable homes in Tonbridge and Malling for people on our housing register.
We use a banding process to prioritise those in the greatest need:
- band A – urgent need to move - for example, those in immediate danger or with significant medical needs or disabilities; those who are under occupying social housing by two bedrooms or more, and those who have fled significant violence or domestic abuse
- band B – high priority - for example, those who are overcrowded by two bedrooms or more and those who are under occupying social homes by one bedroom; prioritised homeless households and applicants with certain medical and welfare needs or disabilities
- band C – medium priority for example - for example, homeless households where a prevention or relief duty are owed and where a household have had an intentionally homeless decision; households overcrowded by one bedroom and applicants living in non-traditional housing such as a houseboat, caravan, or commercial premises who lack any kitchen or bathroom facilities
These bands were updated from 1 June 2023. There is no longer a band D category.
Full details of the criteria for each band, how we assess cases and other areas of the allocation process are set out in our housing allocation scheme.
