
The 1940s brought to life at Tonbridge Castle!
Join us for a nostalgic journey back in time as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day at the historic Tonbridge Castle. Step into the 1940s and experience the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of this pivotal moment in history.
The event will be a spectacular, family-friendly street party, set against the backdrop of the stunning castle grounds with wonderful food, drink, music and dancing. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a celebration reminiscent of the original VE Day street parties that took place across Britain in 1945.
- 10-11am - 17th Tonbridge Scout and Guide Band
- 11am-12 - A VE Day Story: Discover how a civilian wakes up with his family to find out that VE Day has finally arrived. The story focuses on the lead up to the day, the anticipation, the news and the jubilation that followed.
- 12-2pm - Ministry of Swing – swing dance lessons and display
- 2pm-2.15pm - Mayor Crest Competition winners announced
- 2.15pm-4pm - West Kent Big Band
Other attractions include:
- Living History - 1940's Fire Station and vehicles
- Craft Corner – Tonbridge Art Group throughout the day with the Oast theatre dressing up display
