Requesting footage

Certain laws and codes of practice restrict the release of CCTV footage and who it can be given to.

The usual reason members of the public contact us about this is when a vehicle has been damaged in one of our car parks.

We cannot provide CCTV footage to members of the public which includes information that may identify others, such as images of people or vehicle details. However, the police and insurance companies may be able to assist with a request.

Reporting damage to a vehicle

If a vehicle has been damaged and the person causing the damage has not provided their information or reported the matter to the police, they are committing a crime.

Where this has occurred the crime should be reported to the police using the non-emergency number 101. The police can then investigate and may request CCTV footage.

Insurance companies

We can supply an insurance company with specified CCTV footage. This may include information that can identify others, such as images of people and vehicle details, providing the insurers supply us with a court order permitting this.

Information needed for a request

When contacting the police or your insurers, you will need to provide them with the following details:

  • the date and time (within a 30-minute window)
  • the specific location – for example, the area of a car park where the incident took place
  • the make and colour of the vehicle
  • the number plate of vehicle

We do not review footage before a formal request has been received and do not use CCTV cameras for enforcing parking regulations or moving traffic offences.
