Leader praises track record of delivering high quality council services

Damian Roberts has been chosen as the new chief executive of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, it was announced today.

The appointment of Mr Roberts, currently the chief executive of Surrey Heath Borough Council, will be subject to approval by a meeting of councillors due to take place on 9 April.

Prior to his current role, Mr Roberts was chief operating officer at Epsom and Ewell Borough Council and before that held senior roles in local government at Waverley, Croydon and Tower Hamlets councils.

He is expected to take up the role this summer, taking over from the interim chief executive, Adrian Stanfield, who will return to being the council’s deputy chief executive and director of central services.

Damian Roberts said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected to be Tonbridge and Malling’s new chief executive.  I know that I’ll be joining a council with clear ambitions, well managed finances and hugely committed staff.  I’m looking forward very much to working closely with members and officers to help deliver the best outcomes for local residents and contribute to the borough’s growing success.”

Matt Boughton, Leader of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council said: “I’m very pleased that, subject to full council approval, Damian will be the next chief executive of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.

“His track record of delivering high quality council services, coupled with his skills, dynamism and enthusiasm will strengthen our existing expertise and ensure we achieve the ambitious goals set out in our corporate strategy. I look forward to working closely with Damian and welcoming him to Tonbridge and Malling.”
