Five-week workshops are being run for girls and woman by Kent Self Defence Workshops.
The Tonbridge & Malling Community Safety Partnership will be hosting safety workshops at The Angel Centre in Tonbridge from Friday 26 April 2024. These will be for girls aged over 13 and for women of any age.
The workshops are free to attend and there will be two separate workshops held – the first for girls aged 13 to 18 years old (from 6pm until 7pm) and then for women (from 7.30pm until 8.30pm).
The five-week workshops are being run by Kent Self Defence Workshops with funding from the Community Safety Partnership. Kent Self Defence Workshops are fully insured, have an enhanced CRB and have worked for a number of local authorities, schools and charities.
Tonbridge is a safe place to live, and girls and women should not be overly concerned about becoming a victim of violence. However, the courses will help to build confidence and help to give women and girls the power to not be victims, regardless of their age, strength, size or fitness.
During the five-week sessions, you’ll learn:
- That you don’t need to be strong or use strength to overwhelm an aggressor.
- That a handful of carefully crafted words can de-escalate most violent situations.
- About situational awareness and how to avoid situations where violence is most common.
- When de-escalation is not effective, you’ll be given tools to know how to act swiftly, effectively and without guilt.
The workshops will be held on Friday evenings at The Angel Centre, Tonbridge from Friday 26 April until Friday 24 May 2024.
Girls can attend the workshops on their own, or parents are very welcome to stay and observe if they wish.
Upon completion of the five weeks, attendees will receive an attendance certificate and a personal safety alarm.
