Tonbridge Town Lock
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council (TMBC) and the Environment Agency (EA) are working together on an exciting project to improve the Tonbridge Town Lock area along the stretch of Medway Wharf Road between the intersection with the High Street and the River Centre.
The scheme will provide a fully accessible open space for the whole community, enhancing the riverside and allowing the public to walk along the river bank. A copy of the design is available.
The scheme has also been designed to include flood defence work as well as the construction of an attractive new boathouse for use by the EA and other river users. In addition a new telemetry station will be installed to provide the EA with information on the river level.
Funding for this project has come from TMBC, the EA and through contributions from local housing developments.
Work started on 1 June 2015 and is due to be completed in early March 2016.
The contractors (Interserve), the EA and representatives from TMBC met with local residents prior to the works commencing, to address any concerns they had about the works and to make them aware of days and hours during which the work will be carried out as well as any possible road closures.
It is the intention that this webpage will be updated regularly throughout the project. we will also post photographs of how the works are proceeding on our Facebook pages. You can see the pictures, even if you do not have a Facebook account.
