The council currently provides;
- A standard sized black bin for household waste
- A standard sized green-lidded bin for garden waste, cardboard and food waste
- A green recycling box for mixed paper and cans
These containers are considered sufficient to meet most households needs. The size of the bins is based on the need to minimise waste generation and to encourage recycling and reuse of materials where possible. However, some households may require larger or smaller bins.
Request a larger bin
Larger black bins may be provided where six or more people live in a property or where there are special circumstances, eg number of young children in nappies or special medical requirements.
Once your request for a larger black bin has been received, we may need to contact you for further information. We will advise you of the outcome of our investigations within two working days. Larger bins may only be provided while particular circumstances exist and can be exchanged again, for the standard sized bin, after your circumstances change.
We do not currently provide a larger green-lidded bin. If you occasionally have additional green waste you may present up to six open sacks of garden waste next to your green-lidded bin. If you regularly have additional garden waste please complete this form to request a second green-lidded bin.
Request a smaller bin
Smaller, lighter black bins or green-lidded bins may be suitable for small households or individuals.
If you wish to apply for a smaller bin please complete this form.
We will arrange for your bin to be exchanged within 5 working days. Please leave your bin in a visible location until this exchange takes place. Please continue to use your current black bin in the meantime.
