Dust fumes and smells

Last Updated:

A multi-agency liaison group has been established to oversee some of the ongoing issues arising from reports of odours over Tonbridge.

Smells, dust and fumes from industrial, trade or business premises may be considered a statutory nuisance and can be investigated by the council.

However, we cannot investigate smells from domestic properties as these cannot be classed as a statutory nuisance.

How to reduced or prevent problems

Premise owners should ensure that any odorous emissions from premises are adequately dealt with, so that they do not affect others in the locality. This could be by means of activated carbon filters, thermal oxidation, or other suitable treatment.

How to make a complaint

If you feel the problem may be classed as a statutory nuisance, have spoken to the person whose premise is causing the problem (or are unable to do so or do not feel you are able to) and the issue continues, please contact us with the details.
