Food Hygiene Training Courses

The Council's Food and Safety Team in partnership with other District and Borough Councils offer the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health's Food Hygiene Training Courses.

CIEH Foundation Food Safety Certificate

This course is suitable for people involved in food handling with a background knowledge and understanding and will be working to some extent on their own. It provides basic knowledge in the safe handling of food and understanding, prevention and control of food poisoning.

Participants will complete a multiple choice examination at the end of the day.

Allergen Awareness Course

The course is intended for managers, chefs and other food handlers, to raise their awareness of the risks of inaccurate information or poor food handling practices making customers ill. They will learn the skills to read labels, accurately summarise allergen information for their own recipes and good preparation techniques to prevent allergen cross-contamination.

£35 per person (non-refunable).

CIEH Intermediate Food Safety Certificate

For those supervising others in a catering business of any size. Particularly relevant if you have to develop or implement food safety management procedures (such as HACCP), monitor staff and maintain food safety controls. It will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to do your job effectively.

Duration: 3 days of training plus a multiple choice exam on the last day, spread over 3 consecutive weeks. Please note candidates need to attend all sessions.

£280 including course book and exam fees.
