Overview and Scrutiny Committee

In addition to providing a check on decisions made by the Council's Cabinet and calling-in any items for concern for further discussion, the Committee undertakes reviews of any matters it considers appropriate.

Several major reviews have been undertaken related to issues of importance to the local community. Each review has involved the presentation of evidence by Council officers and other interested parties and has often included a small group of Members looking at issues in more depth prior to the review meeting. This has included work shadowing, site visits and meetings with other councils to look at best practice. The work of other organisations is becoming increasingly important in the review process. Final reports are then presented to the Council's Cabinet with recommendations on what service improvements should be made.
