Petitions for a change of governance for Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council
The Local Government Act 2000 provides that electors in the Borough of Tonbridge & Malling can petition the Council to hold a referendum on whether the local authority should change to a different form of governance. A petition must be signed by at least 5% of the local government electors for the Borough.
Each year the Proper Officer of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is required to publish the 'verification number'. This is the number equal to 5% of the number of local government electors included in the register of electors as of 15 February that year.
The verification figure for 15 February 2018 is: 4,803
This number applies to any petition submitted to the Borough Council before 1 April 2019. However, a new number will be published in February 2019 and if the new number is less than 4,803 then the new number will apply from the date it is published.
