Who is eligible to vote at your address

Last Updated:

In July we sent households an important electoral registration form. It is very important that everyone responds to this as soon as possible, so that we can check who is eligible to register to vote. When you receive your form, please respond straight away using the security codes on the form.

If there are NO changes to the details on the form, please respond with one of the following options:

  • Complete the form online at www.elecreg.co.uk/tmbc using the security codes on your printed form.
  • Send us a text message, using the details on your printed form.
  • Call our freephone number 0808 284 1424 using the security codes on your printed form.
  • Complete the paper form and send it back to us in the pre-paid envelope provided.

If you need to make any changes to the details on the form, please respond with one of the following options:

  • Complete the form online at www.elecreg.co.uk/tmbc using the security codes on your printed form.

Frequently asked questions

I've voted recently, why do I need to fill in this form?

It is very important that you respond to the form. We need to know about any changes to your household, such as people moving in or out, or young people turning 16. This will help us keep the register of electors up to date. We do not receive this information from anywhere else, so we need you to respond to the form to tell us.

There haven't been any changes, so why do I need to respond?

Even if there have been no changes, we need to know so we can keep the register up to date. We have no other way of knowing there are no changes unless you tell us, so please do respond as quickly as you can.

What happens if I forget to respond to the form?

If we do not hear from you, we have to send you a reminder form in September. If we still don't hear from you after that, we have to send a member of our team to help you fill in the form. By responding promptly you will be helping us to save money, reduce the number of times we send you letters, and help us keep the register of electors up to date.

What happens when I add someone new to the form?

The forms we send to each household are to find out who is living at each address so we can check if they are eligible to register to vote. Responding to that form does not register them. When someone new is added, if they are eligible to register to vote we will send them a form to enable them to register or they can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Please make sure you respond to any form we send to you, even if you apply to register to vote online, as we need to hear from you.

I want to opt out of the Open Register, or into the Open Register. How do I do that?

Please respond to the form we have sent to you, and then visit www.tmbc.gov.uk/OpenRegister.
