People Held on Remand or Imprisoned

When a person is held on remand by order of a court, or has been imprisoned, they may be disregarded for council tax purposes. This means they would not be included when we count the number of occupants at the address.

But, if a person is being held for non-payment of council tax or a fine, they are not disregarded.

People Held Under The Mental Health Act

When a person is held in a hospital or any other place under the Mental Health Act 1983 they may be disregarded for council tax purposes. This means they would not be included when we count the number of occupants at the address.

If you think a member of your household should be disregarded then please email us. Alternatively, you can telephone the council tax team on 01732 876388.
