Details of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday events

In Tonbridge and Malling, those who lost their lives during the two World Wars and other conflicts will be remembered on Armistice Day, Thursday 11 November and on Remembrance Day, Sunday 14 November.

Armistice Day

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council will be marking Armistice Day on Thursday 11 November with a two-minute silence by firing maroons at 11am and 11.02am in Tonbridge and West Malling.  In Tonbridge, there will be a short service at the Watergate at 10.45am, which the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling Cllr Roger Roud will attend. Members of the public are welcome to attend. 

Remembrance Sunday services


On Remembrance Day, the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Roger Roud and Mayoress Mrs Pam Roud will take part in two services. For anyone wishing to take part, please meet at Tonbridge Castle from 10am.  A parade will leave the castle at 10.30am and proceed along the High Street to the Memorial Gardens at Bradford Street where the service and wreath-laying will take place from 10.30am. The Mayor will lay a wreath at the service. Leader of the Borough Council Matt Boughton and Borough Council Chief Executive Julie Beilby will also attend this service, which will be streamed live on social media.

There will be rolling road closures for up to 15 minutes between 10.30am and 12.30pm along the route of the parade. Exact timings depend on parade progression on the day. The parade route is Castle Street, High Street and Bradford Street – these roads will be closed and High Street junctions to East Street, Lyons Crescent, Medway Wharf Road and New Wharf Road will also be closed.

West Malling

In West Malling, events will start at 2pm with the Mayor taking the salute by the pump in the High Street as part of the remembrance service and parade.  From the Saluting Base the parade will then continue to St Mary’s Church where the Service of Remembrance will begin at 2.30pm. After the service there will be a short wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial outside the church.  Road closures will be from 2.10pm to 2.25 on the High Street between the railway bridge and St Leonards Street.


There will be a Remembrance Sunday Service in Aylesford starting with a parade at 2.50pm from Mountbatten Pavilion to the Garden of Honour for a service and wreath laying at 3pm. Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s Leader Cllr Matt Boughton will lay a wreath. 

Kings Hill

Deputy Mayor for Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Sue Bell will attend the Kings Hill Service of Remembrance at the Running Airman War Memorial at 10.30am.


Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sue Bell will attend the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service.  The Parade will leave Holmesdale Technology College at 2.30pm following the route to Snodland Cemetery where the service will take place.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend any of these services and may also lay wreaths during the ceremonies at the war memorials.
