Borough councillor and classic motorcycle enthusiast, Roger Roud, has been elected as the new Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, taking over from Cllr Jill Anderson who served in the role since 2019.
Cllr Roud represents East Malling where he has lived since 1977. He was first elected in 2015 and has served on committees which oversee licensing, waste, environment and planning. He is also a parish councillor for East Malling and Larkfield and has served as Deputy Mayor for the past two years.
Cllr Roud, 70, and his wife Pam have three children and four grandchildren. Roger’s interests include researching his family history and classic motorcycles. He is secretary of Bexley Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club.
The new Mayor is also actively involved with the East Malling community, serving on committees for the East Malling Institute Trust and the local conservation group. He looks after the village history archives, is a member of Clare Lake Restoration Project and was chair of governors at the former Millstream County Primary School in East Malling.
During his year as Mayor, Cllr Roud will be supporting the Kent Air Ambulance as his chosen charity.
On taking up his role, Cllr Roud said: “I want to thank Jill Anderson for her dedication in the role of Mayor over what has been a challenging year. I’m very much looking forward to the year ahead as life hopefully continues to safely return to some sort of normality and I’m proud to be supporting the very worthy Kent Air Ambulance in my mayoral duties.”
The Deputy Mayor for the coming year is Cllr Sue Bell, who represents Snodland East and Ham Hill ward.
