Borough residents can have warmer homes this winter thanks to a new scheme that fully funds* the installation of gas connection and gas central heating.
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council has secured funding from the Warm Homes Fund and other funding partners which could improve the lives of local people currently living in cold homes.
The scheme will pay for installation of first-time gas connection and gas central heating systems, and other insulation measures. To be eligible, the homeowner or private rented tenant must be in receipt of certain benefits, or on a low income living with someone who is suffering from a health condition that is impacted by living in a cold home.
Homes heated by storage heaters, electric radiators, or solid fuel fires are encouraged to apply. Eligible homes will be checked to ensure they are in close proximity to the mains gas network.
The council’s cabinet member for housing, Piers Montague, said: ‘With pandemic restrictions likely to be in place throughout the winter months, people are spending more time than ever in their homes. It’s unthinkable that residents should not have adequate heating.
‘We want to help as many eligible households as possible to access this funding to install central heating systems to warm their homes and improve their quality of life. Where vulnerable people are living in cold homes, we hope that friends or carers will help them to find out about this funding.’
