On Wednesday 6 February organisers of Tonbridge Dog Show, presented a cheque to Tonbridge Dementia Friendly Community at Cannon Lawn, Tonbridge Castle.

The funds were raised at Tonbridge Dog Show which took place in September last year and saw around 95 dogs and their owners take part in classes such as Beautiful Rescue, Fabulous Family, Cutest Puppy and Best Oldie.  There was a small fee of £1.50 per class and collections on the day which all amounted to the grand fundraising total of £650.

The cheque was presented to the charity by the Dog Warden for Tonbridge and Malling, Lorraine Baseden and Sam Goode from Tonbridge OId Fire Station.

Dog Warden, Lorraine Baseden says: “Thank you to everyone who came along to the dog show last year and gave so generously to the Tonbridge Dementia Friendly Community.  I think everyone enjoyed the day and it’s rewarding to know that as well as putting on a fun community event we are now able to present this cheque to this very worthy charity.”

The annual dog show, which has been running for ten years, promotes responsible dog ownership and raises funds for a different charity each year.  The event is organised by the Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council with support from Tonbridge Old Fire Station and Ward Security, providers of the borough’s dog warden service.

Tonbridge Dementia Friendly Community is a community group made up of local residents, business representatives and volunteers who focus on work in the Tonbridge area to improve the lives locally for residents living with dementia.

Christine Parker of Abbey Funerals in Tonbridge accepted the cheque as Chair of Tonbridge Dementia Friendly Community.  Christine says: “I’m delighted to accept this cheque on behalf of our charity.  Thank you to those involved in organising the dog show and to everyone who donated, including the many four-legged friends that came along on the day.”
