On Thursday 3 October, around 80 students with special needs from five different schools joined the Deputy Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Roger Roud, and the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Roud, for the 2019 Discovery Day at the Angel Centre in Tonbridge.
Organised by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council in conjunction with the Tonbridge and Malling Leisure Trust, the day provided the children with a wide range of sporting activities to enjoy including cricket, arts & crafts, trampolining, judo, boxing (non-contact), gymnastics, archery, boccia, kids yoga and Boxfit, many of which were delivered by local clubs and coaches.
The event was sponsored by Fidelity International, which also volunteered a number of members of their staff to help run the day. Tonbridge Lions Club also supported the event and Tonbridge Lion, Keith Bourne, joined the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress to welcome all the children and staff to a great day of fun activities.
Cllr Roger Roud, Deputy Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, says: “It was a great pleasure take part in this year’s Discovery Day and I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a success. Seeing the children having such an exciting time with such a great variety of activities to try was lovely, and we were impressed to see how the children wholeheartedly enjoyed learning and mastering new skills.”
