Local food businesses are being invited to book their places on a new Allergen Control course run by food safety officers from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.
Too many allergic reactions caused by food have been reported in the headlines in the last few years – and sadly, some of these have been fatal. With the proper controls, these could have been prevented.
The Food Standards Agency announced this week that further legislation will be coming soon, requiring prepacked foods prepared on site to have allergen labelling in future. Meanwhile, businesses are urged to get to grips with allergen control as soon as possible to prevent further incidents.
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s food safety officers want to help build local caterers’ confidence in providing accurate allergen information and preparing food in a way that would prevent allergen contamination.
Training is on offer at West Kent College in Tonbridge for just £30 per person between 3-5pm on Wednesday 10 July. A certificate of attendance will be issued afterwards.
Places are limited, so please book as soon as possible, on 01732 876191. If you cannot make this date, please register your interest to find out about a future course.
Eleanor Hoyle, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Director of Planning, Housing and Environmental Health, said: “This Allergen Control training for those involved in food preparation in Tonbridge and Malling is so important and with the potential risks in not having the proper controls in place having potentially devastating outcomes, I hope that there is an enthusiastic take-up of the course places.”
