Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council has been working with Dartford Orienteering Klubb to produce a new orienteering course at Leybourne Lakes Country Park for all to enjoy. The course will give children and adults alike the chance to practice their navigation skills to try to find the ‘marker posts’ positioned around the site, using a leaflet or mobile phone app for guidance.
The leaflet, produced by Dartford Orienteering Klubb, is available onsite or to download and print at home. The course, open to the public year round, is also available to download via the Sporteering app, available at iTunes and Google Play.
Leybourne Lakes Country Park is managed and maintained by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council with the help of local volunteers who meet regularly to carry out organised tasks like litter picking, coppicing and tree planting. It has a Green Flag Award which is a sign to the public that the park boasts high environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Andrew Evans, from Dartford Orienteering Klubb, says: “It’s great to have another permanent course for the general public to use and enjoy in such an attractive environment, at the same time learning new skills and being more active in the great outdoors.”
Maria Heslop, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services says: “It’s really good to have yet another facility open to the public at Leybourne Lakes Country Park where both adults and children are able to learn and use new skills in the beautiful surroundings of the Country Park. I hope that many of our visitors take the opportunity to try out the orienteering course, while enjoying everything that the park has to offer.”
