Borough Council Elections

Elections of Borough Councillors to Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council take place every 4 years.

The Borough of Tonbridge & Malling is currently served by 53 Councillors, representing 26 wards.

The next scheduled elections are due in May 2015. The last elections were held in May 2011. Since that date there have been by-elections for the ward of West Malling & Leybourne, and for Borough Green & Long Mill.

Parish and Town Council Elections

Elections of Parish and Town Councillors within Tonbridge & Malling take place every 4 years.

Much of the Borough (all areas outside of Tonbridge) is currently represented by a parish or town council.

The next scheduled elections are due in May 2015. The last elections were held in May 2011. Since that date there have been by-elections for :

County Council Elections

Elections of Councillors to Kent County Council take place every 4 years.

The Borough of Tonbridge & Malling is currently served by 7 County Councillors, representing 6 electoral divisions within Tonbridge & Malling.

The next scheduled elections are due in May 2013. The last elections were held in May 2013.

Parliamentary Elections

Elections of Members of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons take place every 5 years.

The Borough of Tonbridge & Malling is currently served by two Parliamentary Constituencies, and so two MPs.

The next scheduled election is due in May 2015. The last election was held in May 2010.

European Parliamentary Elections

Elections of Members of the European Parliament (MEP) take place every 5 years.

MEPs serve in regions. Tonbridge & Malling is within the South East England region, which is served by ten MEPs.

The next scheduled election is due in June 2019. The last election was held in May 2014. The local results from that election are available; the The regional results, for the South East England region, are available from the website of the Regional Returning Officer at http://www.southampton.gov.uk/EuropeanParliamentaryElections/. It is these Regional results that determine which party wins which seat(s).

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections

The first election of a Police and Crime Commissioner election is due to take place in November 2012. There will be a single Commissioner to serve the residents of Kent and Medway. Further information is available from the Kent Police Authority.

Referenda

National referenda do not happen often. The last referendum held, on the Voting System to use at Parliamentary Elections, took place in May 2011.

Parish Polls

Parish Polls, which canvass opinion of local residents in parish and town council areas, are conducted when required. The results of these polls are not legally binding. No parish polls are currently scheduled. The results of previous parish polls are available.
