Licence - alcohol and entertainment
A premises licence or a club premises certificate is required for premises that:
- Sell (or supply in the case of a club) alcohol and/or
- Provide regulated entertainment and/or
- Provide late night refreshment.
Regulated entertainment
Regulated entertainment includes the following:
Plays, films, indoor sporting events, boxing and wrestling, live music, recorded music, performances of dance and anything similar.
Licensing Act 2003 - Live Music
Unamplified live music - 8am until 11pm
Removes the licensing requirement for unamplified live music taking place between 8am and 11pm in all venues, subject to the right of a licensing authority to impose conditions about live music following a review of a premises licence or club premises certificate relating to premises authorised to supply alcohol for consumption on the premises
Amplified live music - 8am until 11pm
Removes the licensing requirement for amplified live music taking place between 8am and 11pm before audiences of no more than 200 persons on premises authorised to supply alcohol for consumption on the premises, subject to the right of a licensing authority to impose conditions about live music following a review of a premises licence or club premises certificate
Workplaces - Amplified live music - 8am until 11pm
Removes the licensing requirement for amplified live music taking place between 8am and 11pm before audiences of no more than 200 persons in workplaces not otherwise licensed under the 2003 Act (or licensed only for the provision of late night refreshment)
Entertainment Facilities
Removes the licensing requirement for the provision of entertainment facilities for:
- Making music
- Dancing
- Entertainment of a similar description to making music or dancing
Morris Dancing Exemption
The Act widens the licensing exemption for live music integral to a performance of Morris dancing or dancing of a similar type, so that the exemption applies to live or recorded music instead of unamplified live music
Late night refreshment
This is the provision of providing hot food or drink between the hours of 23:00 and 05:00 the following day.

Details of the new or proposed variation application must be published in a local newspaper and a notice displayed on the premises. Full details of the extent of the advertisement are available by contacting the licensing office.
Example of the notice to be displayed on the premisesThe application must be accompanied by a plan of the premises to which the application relates. Unless agreed otherwise the plan shall be drawn in standard scale i.e. 1mm represents 100mm. Full details of the extent of the plan are available by contacting the licensing office.

Each premises will be allocated to a fee band according to the non-domestic rateable value of the property. The current fees are listed below.

For changes of Licence holder and / or change of Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) a copy of both the below forms must be sent to:
