The Housing Register

The Council transferred its stock to the then Tonbridge and Malling Housing Association (now Russet Homes) in 1991 and no longer owns any housing itself. Instead it has nomination rights to property owned by various housing associations in the borough. Each year we aim to house at least 250 households from the Housing Register into housing association homes.

We hold a Housing Register (sometimes referred to as the waiting list) of those people wanting access to social housing. Our allocation scheme sets out the rules and way in which applications and nominations are dealt with. Nomination agreements with housing associations are used to secure affordable housing for people on the Housing Register.

We recognise that for many clients provision of accommodation alone is not enough to meet their housing needs. The Council therefore maintains a multi-agency group, the Joint Assessment and Referral Panel (JARP), comprising housing and care providers, including representatives from Social Services and the Community Mental Health Team. The JARP considers the housing and support needs of vulnerable homeless clients.
