The Addington Long Barrow & The Chestnuts

These very interesting neolithic tombs are privately owned, the former can be seen from the minor road that actually cuts through the mound, and the latter is open to view by calling at the house close to the site. A detailed survey was carried out in 1981 and plans are available of both long barrows.

Coldrum Long Barrow (National Trust)

The stones from the remains of a Neolithic Long Barrow 4,000 to 5,000 years old. They consist of a burial chamber and 24 stone columns forming a rough square, only four of which still stand. Other Neolithic features include the Countless Stones and the White Horse Stones, all to the north east of Aylesford.
Situated: Access on foot from NT car park, off Pinesfield Lane, Trottiscliffe.

Kits Coty House & Little Kits Coty House (English Heritage)

Ruins of two prehistoric burial chambers formerly covered by long earthern mounds.
Situated: West of A229, 2 miles north of Maidstone.
Admission: Free
Open: Any reasonable time.

Old Soar Manor (National Trust)

Original solar building of a late 13th century knight's fortified dwelling. A chapel and vaulted undercroft are also preserved. Attached to private house.

St Leonard's Tower (English Heritage)

The Norman tower was built in approx. 1080 by Bishop Gundulf, architect of Malling Abbey and Rochester Cathedral and is believed to have been his fortified home.
Situated: South of West Malling, adjacent to A228.
Admission: Free
Open: Grounds open any reasonable time. External viewing only.
