Cleaner Borough Campaign
The Council takes a three pronged approach to dealing with litter and keeping the street scene clean: education, enforcement and effective cleansing. We spend almost one million pounds of taxpayers' money each year cleaning the streets and clearing fly-tips. With this in mind, the Council has developed a Cleaner Borough Campaign, which is a variety of educational and community initiatives aimed at making people aware of the environmental problems associated with litter and cleanliness issues like fly-tipping and graffiti.
The overall aim of the Cleaner Borough Campaign is to develop proactive educational and community initiatives to reduce the amount of litter seen in public open spaces. The campaign includes:
- 'Bag & Flag' Responsible Dog Ownership Events
- Bash the Trash
- Bash the Trash gallery
- Chewing gum litter pilot
- Dog Warden Service
- Environmental Champions Award
- Food on the Go - working with businesses
- Fly-tipping
- Forthcoming environmental events
- Graffiti removal
- Graffiti education
- Raising awareness and enforcement
- Smoking related litter campaign
- Snodland Goes Cleaner Campaign
- Street Monitor Scheme
- Working with schools
- Your street cleansing service

The Council is also supporting The Clean Kent Campaign, which reinforces and compliments the initiatives being delivered as part of our Cleaner Borough Campaign. The Clean Kent Campaign is a new initiative aimed at improving the quality of the environment by reducing littering and fly-tipping throughout the whole of Kent. The two-year campaign, led by Kent County Council, involves a number of partners including the Environment Agency, ENCAMS and district councils.
